Preparing to Travel

You've talked to your doctor and have decided to take advantage of all we have to offer. Now you're excited about medical tourism, but maybe a bit apprehensive about the entire process. That's ok! We're here to help you through it. Here are your next steps:

If You Have Insurance
  1. Contact your health plan to find out exactly what is covered and what isn't. You'll find the number on the back of your insurance ID card. Keep in mind, coverage for health care you receive outside the United States may be very different than if you received care here at home.
  2. Ask if you will need any precertifications or preauthorizations. Get details on how to get them, if necessary.
  3. When you talk to your health plan representative, take notes. Write down the person's name and the date in case you need to reference it later. Ask any questions you need to understand your exact benefits.
  4. Make sure you have a current insurance ID card and be sure to pack it with you! Always carry your ID card during your trip.
